2 blessed little four foot creatures arrived at Sparrow Springs Ranch this late summer. Lily and Remy.
Remi, a spitting image of his daddy, Chics Loaded Gun AKA Gunman is lucky to even be here. A series of very stressful events began before his mom was even bred. The original broodmare wouldn’t take and at the last minute Vicky and Wendy swapped mares to their current show horse, Sugar. Sugar, herself an embryo mare and sister to Weaver’s model palomino, did not take the first time and wound up with twins the second time. Vicky and Wendy were forced to make the decision to remove one of the twins for the safety of the mare, and to ensure better survival of the foal. This is normally a relatively simple procedure, but at procedure time, ultrasound showed the twins were more attached. The procedure became even more complicated when Sugar collapsed during sedation. Once the procedure was completed, the veterinarians advised that only time would tell if the remaining foal embryo would survive. Of course, it did, but it still wasn’t smooth sailing. During her pregnancy, Sugar suffered a round of colic/illness. Recovering, she delivered Remy on his due date. Vicky and Wendy feel blessed that not only does Remi have four feet on the ground, but they got everything on their wish list: the big bald face, the chrome, the beautiful blue eyes and the eyeliner. Remy is totally captivating and amazing to watch. I can’t wait to follow this little guy as he grows up.
Lily is out of DS Dannika and by the locally loved Calico Quarter Horse stallion Slow Mountn Music (Monty). No scary stories here. Her mom is a patient soul and Lily is a curious pocket filly with the most perfect dun coloring and unique leg markings. Lily wanted a piece of the action, putting her nose right up the camera lens. I had to have a spotter just to keep this little one from running right into me. Fearless, delicate and sweet, Lily is going to grow up to be a very respected and loved horse just like her daddy.
